HSC Accreditation
The Texas A&M Health Science Center is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate, master's, doctoral and professional degrees. In addition, the Texas A&M Health Science Center components are each accredited by organizations specific to their disciplines.
Baylor College of Dentistry has accredited programs in dentistry, dental hygiene and the advanced dental education programs of endodontics, oral and maxillofacial pathology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics and advanced general dentistry. These programs are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (211 E. Chicago Ave.; Chicago, Ill. 60611; 312-440-2719). The commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by The Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation and by the U.S. Department of Education.
The College of Medicine is fully accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education(LCME). The LCME accredits all medical schools in the United States and Canada. The LCME also is recognized as the accrediting body for medical schools by the U.S. Secretary of Education, by the U.S. Congress in various health-related laws, and by state, provincial (Canada) and territorial licensure boards. The School of Rural Public Health has received full accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health(CEPH), and is authorized to offer degrees at both the masters and doctoral levels. It is the sole accrediting body for all public health programs and schools of public health in the United States.
In 2007 the Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy was awarded candidate accreditation status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). This level of accreditation is awarded to a Doctor of Pharmacy program that has students enrolled, but has not yet had a graduating class. The newly created College of Nursing has completed its first self-study and is undergoing its initial accreditation review by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In order to reaffirm its SACS accreditation in 2012, the HSC has begun the process of conducting an extensive self study. Information about this self study process, and its outcomes, will be posted on this website as updates become available.
