The Texas A&M Health Science Center is a university of the health sciences that includes the College of Medicine, College of -Nursing, Irma Lerma Rangel College
of Pharmacy, Baylor College of Dentistry, School of Rural Public Health, Institute of Biosciences and Technology, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and other institutes and academic programs. Under Dr. Dickey’s leadership, the health science center is -growing in the number of programs and number of graduates, expanding its research programs, and extending its service to the citizens of Texas.
In addition to serving as president of the AMA in 1998-99, Dr. Dickey has participated in -numerous other professional organizations including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, the Texas Medical Association and the National Patient Safety Foundation. Among Dr. Dickey’s many honors are five honorary doctoral degrees and election to the prestigious Institute of Medicine. She writes for a number of medical and health policy journals, speaks frequently at professional and civic organizations around the country and the world, and is an editor for both an online and print journal.
The Texas A&M Health Science Center is committed to the philosophy of its land-grant heritage – bringing the finest health education and advocacy to the citizens of Texas; advancing science and pushing the boundaries of existing knowledge; and assuring that the fruits of that education and -science are carried to the bedside of citizens of Texas, the nation, and the world. Dr. Dickey has found that providing leadership to those committed to fulfilling this mission is challenging, interesting and enjoyable.
